Passenger Flow Visualization Tool

To end my study, I did my bachelor project with a big company - The Meyer Werft. A big shipyard that builds cruise liners. My job was to develop a 3D tool that enables the employees to investigate the way the passengers move on deck. The actual 3D blueprints of the ships are used in the 3D world in conjunction with moving particles, symbolizing the passengers.

Diabetes Helper Application Mockup

Diabetes App Mockup

During the last actual module, there was one last group assignment - Remote Care Nearby. This year's challenge was to develop smart and creative solutions for diabetes patients.
In a team of four, we developed a prototype application in Adobe XD that patients can use to conquer their fears. Much like a Tinder, Instagram, cookbook mixture for diabetes patients. The point of the application is to find a person with similar conditions so friends can be found and improvements are made together.

ITC Relocation Project

Campus Building Relocation

again as an elective, I decided to get to know another study in the 10th module. I did the Smart Cities course of civil engineering.

Here, our job was to investigate and explore all the possibilities of moving the ITC faculty building (currently in the city centre) to the UT campus. We found four locations and later settled on one - the gallery building. To round things off, we developed a cost plan, rough designs and potential features.

I gained new insights as it was a study far different from the more technical studies like CreaTe or computer science.

Smart Escape Room

Smart Escape Room

During the 9th module, I chose to follow a course of the computer science study at the UTwente. In this project, my group and I developed a smartphone application and a room full of riddles. Using IoT devices, mini-computers and other hardware, we designed an interactive and fun game that is based on the standard escape room - just a bit more IT themed.

Pills & Bills

For the last module of the second year of my study, we were tasked to create something big. With 14 people and a minimal budget of 420€ we had to come up with an installation for the general topic "culture or sports". We chose to show the influence of drugs and brands in contemporary music. We all know that these are common subjects in the music we are listening to on a daily basis, but how much of an impact does it have? And how often do the artists talk about it, without us realizing it?

Pills&Bills - Final Presentation

Pills & Bills

We built our installation so it mirrors a music studio: Big speakers on the sidewalls, a booth in the center and a DJ mixing board to control the input. The visitor can select the years and genres on the board via dials and sliders. Consequently, 4 microphones will rise up inside like bar graphs showing the mentionings of drugs and brands for each year and genre respectively. Moreover, live music is playing.  Each time a drug or brand is mentioned a pill or a coin will fall out of the dispensers.

DataVis - World Forestation

DataViz - World Forestation

Communicating Data means being able to visualize it. That's why we gained knowledge of the powerful tools of Data Visualization. Together with my group, we chose to show "Life on Land", one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals" of the UN. We gathered Information about Flora and Fauna as well as Human Interference to guide the world towards a more environmentally conscious society.

Learn how to Animate

Learn how to animate

One of the subjects of this module was "Animated Data Narration". It was completely up to us, what we animate or narrate, so I came up with visualizing how Car Tuning Trends have evolved over the last decades. This short animation shows the trends of the 50s, 70s, 90s 2000s and the modern time.

Noms - Mockup

Business Module - Noms

The task is to come up with a company and learn how to start, finance and market it. Our company is a local food delivery that creates healthy dishes with a catch: If you order as a group, you will always get a discount. We hope that this saves costs for the individual, creates contacts and friendships and improves the overall life quality.

I designed the logo for the company. I included a playful font, negative space and a leaf for the green and healthy aspect.

Technology

My group built an interactive learning simulation, where kids will learn the inner workings of ecology using augmented reality simulations. For lo-fi testing, we cut out wolves and rabbits + event cards to see, if the kids get the concept in the first place, before building a real AR-Version of the application. The end application was running on android, it projected the 3D animals on tracking cards and onto pages of a children's school book we designed. By adding and removing the cards, the kids could influence the populations.

The Life of a Roomba - The Game

The Life of a Roomba - Game

We learned tons and tons of new stuff in Virtual and Augmented Reality as well as in Game Design and Sound Engineering. For the final project, I've built a game, where one plays a sad vacuum robot that tries to upgrade himself to become a more powerful and advanced robot. It is completely built in MAYA and Unity with the sound coming from FMOD.

For the last module of the first year of Creative Technology, our group built an art installation for the GOGBOT Festival taking place in Enschede. The theme was INTERGALACTIC, that is why we build a cub filled with mirrors and smoke, lit up with lasers that pulsating to the music. Our Team was elected to demonstrate our Prototype during the Festival in an old church.

DIY Ring Light

Mainly for photography usage and because I want to get to know more about laser cutting and craftsmanship, I built a ring light. It is 80cm in diameter and made completely out of wood. 5 meters of white LEDs and 2 meters of RGB LEDs are installed. This will hopefully increase my quality of photos and possibilities in photography and general.

Sensoree _ NDIX 2017

Sensoree @ NDIX 2017

On the 8th of June 2017, we represented the University of Twente and Creative Technology as well a Sensoree. We were invited by the staff of CreaTe to show and demonstrate what it is like studying at the UTwente. We got to know many people and companies that eventually started out like us. Many interesting opportunities for life after the study.

Sensoree Sweater

SENSOREE Sweater

Sensoree, a San Francisco based company that creates tools for meditation and relaxation purposes, challenges us to build a relaxation sweater that reads the users' bodily reactions.

Breathing and heart rate sensors were used for this.

The sweater reacts by lighting up and playing the fitting music.

Foam Modelling

One important skill learned in module 3 of CreaTe was foam modelling. Before actually building the prototype it is always good to build a model first. this is what we learned while building a speed controller.

Learning how to 3D-Model

Before I joined CreaTe, I already knew some basics of 3D modelling. In module 3 one course was named Interactive Visualization and thought us more about it. As a final project in this course, I made a Model of a legendary Camera: the Yashica mat 124 G.

Smart Bike Rack

Smart Bike Rack

Module 2 was all about creating a product that is smart, autonomous and scalable.
Our team thus created a bike rack that will lock the user's bike automatically, let's the user find it more easily with blinking LEDs and a user interface at the entrance of the bike stand building.

With locks on both wheels, it is an improvement to the current locking system some people might use.

Learning how to Sketch

Learning how to sketch

In module 2 of CreaTe there was a course called Sketching. Here we learned important skills to visualize our ideas and prototypes. The course started with simple boxes and ended in creating a spaceship within a couple of hours.

Motorized Camera Slider

For the programming course in module 2 of Creative Technology, my friend Paulius Barakauskas and I built this camera slider. We used an Arduino and a stepper motor to move the camera on a sledge along the guiding pipes.

Multiple modes can be set to determine the speed and rotation of the sledge.
This contraption can be used for time-lapses, product videography or simple sliding shots.

In the end, we got awarded with the DECA Award.
